Do you believe in God, Satan does.

The question posed on one of those “fill in the blanks” emails that go around asking people to tell about themselves askes, “Do you believe in God?” Well of course I do, but so does the devil. What does it mean to believe in God? Well what does it mean to believe in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy? Is believing enough to reap the benefits? Just because you believe in those characters do you automatically get gifts, eggs filled with goodies and money for your nasty, sugar rotted teeth? Well honestly NO. Usually there is some unseen force that aids in bringing those things about. Someone has to make, wrap and deliver the presents. Someone has to fill and hide the eggs. Someone has to remove the tooth from beneath the pillow and replace it with a dollar (Inflation – when I was a kid, the tooth fairy only left me a dime!).

Who is the unseen force for God?
That’s easy it Jesus Christ.
It even says so in the Bible, John 14:5-7 (New International Version)
Jesus is the Way to the Father
5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you really knew me, you would know[a] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."

So is believing enough to get you to Heaven where you can enjoy the treasures that you have stored up or is there more? Yes, there is more, you have to KNOW that unseen force, you have to KNOW the Son, you have to know that He sacrificed His life for yours on the cross and that He rose from the grave 3 days later. He wasn’t just a man or a fictional character in a fictional story, He really existed and if you believe in Him, He will wrap up your presents and HE will give them to you in Heaven.

I just called.....

Is emailing becoming our main source of communication these days? It sure seems to be, even my 87 year old grandma communicates via email. It's so simple to write one message, address it to 2, 10 or everyone in your address book and hit "send". It's easy, it's simple, everyone does it, but what is it costing us?

What happened to that personal touch of going to a card store, spending hours pouring through 100's of cards to finally pick out one that you know will bring a smile to that special someone's face. What happened to personal letters? What happened to taking the time to actually write out all the words and asking someone "how are you?"? Our children's children are going to think that r, u, 2, lol, among many others are actually how you spell those words.

Even more lost is the art of the phone call. I know in today's world where everyone has a cell phone (even the eight year old down the street has one)it would seem that calling someone just to say "I was thinking about you" or "I love you" wouldn't be a lost art, but it is. When was the last time you called someone just to say, "I haven't heard your voice in a while and I wanted to know how you were doing." There is nothing more personal than hearing the voice of a loved one telling you that you were on their minds. Someone was thinking enough of you to stop what they were doing, pick up the phone, punch 10 numbers and wait for you to answer.

I propose that we take one day a week off and, God forbid, not check our email but instead, write three letters and make two phone calls. Or make 1 phone call and send a card. Or whatever, just to let someone know that you thought of them and only them for the few minutes it took to write the words “Thinking of you” or calling someone and saying, “how are you really doing?”. Or is it too late, are we just a society where personal touch is gone, replaced with keyboard and computer screens……………….
